My husband I and our three dogs may be getting stationed to Fort Campbell KY. I have been doing some research on the area but have found little information. Can anyone tell me what the best neighborhoods off post are to live in? Are there homes for rent that allow pets that dont cost over $1000 in rent? What is it like to live in KY? We live in AZ right now so Im thinking its going to be quite a change for us. What is there to do around fort campbell and its surrounding areas? Any help and information would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

We are moving to Ft. Campbell in July and need to know the best high school and middle school to attened. I looked at great schools and am not impressed with the test scores for any of them. Anywhere thats with in a 30 min drive from Campbell would be fine. Also anyone know about travel soccer clubs in the area? The best I'v found is in Brentwood and Nashville. Where are the nicer areas to live in?

Whitney H. says: We've been at Fort Campbell KY for almost 3 years now and we didn't care for it at first only because of the humidity but now we love it. It grows on you. There is LOTS to do within 3 hours of the post. =] Fort Campbell does deploy ALOT but that is bound to come with the Army life :) Needless to say I am happy with Fort Campbell and sad to leave.

Oh Fort Campbell KY/TN.....I lived here a total of 7 yrs between two different PCS's....I'd have lived here forever....we were in in both the 101st and 5th SFG.  I loved it....I love the area I love the seasons I owned three homes there both in TN and KY....but I have family in the area which makes it more attractive and now some of my closest friends have PCS'd there....they are not very fond of it....but for me if it were not for my fondness of Dallas/Fort Worth Area I'd retire there.....and Fort Cambell is a great base....

Kimberly D says: USA Army. 1999-2007 and 2011-current. Fort Campbell is an amazing post. It's big and very easy to navigate. It's being built up daily it seems. Offers a huge PX and soon to be new Commissary. They are very family oriented and provide an abundance of activities many of which are free to Soldiers and their dependents. The towns around us are very supportive for the most part. The MWR and Travel Leisure are amazing in providing us with up to date information on activities. You can go any direction and have something to do. I will say Clarksville the town right outside post needs to provide more teen/young kids things to do but if you go an hour South or North there is plenty. I love this place!.....................

There are a ton of local eateries here. Shopping is pretty decent too. I would just google Fort Campbell and go from there!

We don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t really go ?¢‚Ǩ?ìclubbing?¢‚Ǩ¬ù but if you do, Nashville would be the place. Make sure you have a DD!!!! Nashville has so many great places to go. As for locally, there are many nice little places to eat and have a drink as well as some little clubs that pack a punch. As far as eateries, if it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not here, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s in Nashville but, I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m thinking you won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t have a problem as there are so many eateries here. For the hunters, there is Bass Pro in Nashville and a Gander Mountain in the other direction of Paducah. Paducah offers a lot as well.

Fort Campbell, Kentucky December 1999-January 2007 and 2011-current. Active Duty Army, United States of America.

We were stationed here at Fort Campbell as Infantry with the 1-187 and it was a great experience. We tried for a year to get back here and was successful and currently stationed here again. There is so much to do and see in all directions. I absolutely love this place! Fort Campbell has a great family resource center and they do so much for the families and Soldiers here. The opportunities are endless. The community supports us and offers so much as well for the Soldiers and their families. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a must to be stationed here!

Hello all! My family will be coming to Ft. Campbell in October of this year. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and to all new wives I would say, take heed to any advice, but judge the situation for urself. What some find as a bad or boring post may suit u just fine. Give it a chance. My husband has been in the Army for 10 years and we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been together for 3 years. I pretty much know all I need to know about the whole experience, I just want to inquire about on post housing and the shopping there. To Mrs. Robinson D, sorry to hear about your daughter?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s situation, but u will soon learn that not everyone is as they seem, no matter the rank. Just do what u can and leave the rest to God.

We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY now for 10 years. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s the only post we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve ever know. We live in Clarksville off post but I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m on post almost daily. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s very much like it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s own small city. Clarksville is huge and growing in size yearly. My daughter has been in elementary and middle school in Clarksville and the schools were pretty good. I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve heard on post school K-12 are much better. There is nice new housing on post that has been built in the past 4 years. We love it here and will be sad when we have to PCS.

I was involved with the Newcomers Association in Hopkinsville while my husband was stationed at Fort Campbell. Here is a bit about it:

Newcomers welcomes one an all?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ new or old. We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been part of the community for close to 35 years?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ our goal is to help women new to the area to meet friends, find out about location information (i.e. day care, Mom?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s groups, dentists, hair dressers and more). At one time, we were all newcomers to Hopkinsville.

We meet once a month for a lunch and have a local speaker who might share information about things we would like to know about, and you have a chance to win a minimum of 1 of 5 door prizes. Your first luncheon is free, as is day care (at the YMCA), after that lunches cost about $8 and child care is available at the Y for a reduced rate for Newcomers.

We also have day and evening sub groups: Lunch Bunch, Book Worms, Bunco, Ladies Nite Out, Supper Club and more.

For more information, visit our website hopkinsvillenewscomers.org

Remember, your first luncheon is free?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ and you might just meet some gals you can connect with!

We lived in Hopkinsville, KY for five years while my husband was stationed at Fort Campbell. We really enjoyed living in this smaller town. The community is very supportive of military families and I made several dear friends. There is a fabulous organization, the Newcomers Association, in Hopkinsville. They had a Playgroup for young children which allowed me to meet several great moms. The local churches have great preschool programs, but fill up fast.

My dentist was Dr. Stokes in Hopkinsville. He had a new partner when I left, and I cannot remember his name, but he was great also.

The local YMCA is great. It was built sometime around 2002, so it is a new facility with a great outdoor pool. Great childcare rooms!

I would choose Hopkinsville over Clarksville! I enjoyed the smaller town atmosphere and traffic was always so hectic when I went to Clarksville. Also, the commute was very similar in time to people traveling from Clarksville.

Fort Campbell is our family?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s first duty station. We do not much care for it.

Though, the post is so massive it is like its own city. It has the commissary, the PX, shoppettes/gas stations, fast food, coffee shops, chapels for all religions, schools, parks, water parks and pools, southern buffet, golf course, paintball range, riding stables, skeet range, fishing ponds, a bowling alley. tons of stuff. :) if you HAVE to come here I hope you enjoy it.

home is where the army sends you hunny

Opinion:
Fort Campbell is on the border of KY and TN. Clarksville is the largest with a small state university, there is a mall, and of course chain restaurants, but really a cute little town. Hopkinsville is the slightly more rural town in Kentucky, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s nice and you have a little more elbow room, but it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a slightly longer drive. Oak Grove, KY, a small tobacco farming town, doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t really have anything but very low rent apartments?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ (remember: folks did not LIKE Oak Grove!!) Commissary, exchange, chapels shops are fairly close together. The traffic is really bad and a lot of times you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d be better off maybe buying a bike and ride that around. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s easy. Nashville is about 50 miles away.

Newcomers:
New to the Fort Campbell community, or returning after an extended absence?

Attend the twice-monthly Soldier and Family Newcomer?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Orientation at the Family Resource Center. The orientation pools resources from across the installation to make a military Family?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s move easier and to provide spouses the same access to information as in-processing Soldiers.

The orientation, filled with information about Fort Campbell, includes a welcome and video presentation, a bus tour of the installation, lunch, and the opportunity to meet representatives from the many agencies at Fort Campbell . Family Housing, Child, Youth and School Services, Tricare, Army Family Team Building and others help welcome incoming Soldiers and their Families to post.

Attendees should arrive by 8:30 a.m. and the event concludes at 3 p.m.

Free child care is available by emailing acsrelocation@www.fortcampbellmwr.com a week before the orientation you plan to attend. The registration form is available online at http://www.fortcampbellmwr.com/acsnew ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú the forms must be brought with you to the orientation. For more information call 270-798-6313.
